Experience high-performance dual-display video distribution with Tripp Lite’s B140-002-DD. This box-style transmitter accepts two independent DVI-D sources and splits each signal to two remote monitors, enabling a total of four displays from two PCs. Built for reliability in enterprise, classroom, or demanding home-office environments, it leverages standard Cat5e/6 cabling to carry pristine digital video over room-to-room distances. Whether you’re conducting side-by-side video analysis, running a multi-monitor trading desk, or delivering synchronized content across displays, this extender delivers crisp images, simple installation, and flexible deployment options that scale with your needs.

With two receiver modes—passive and active—this system adapts to your distance and power availability. Passive receivers offer a clean, low-maintenance path up to 50 ft at 1920x1080 and up to 100 ft at 1024x768, with no external power required. For longer runs or higher resolutions, active, powered receivers extend the reach while preserving signal integrity. The transmitter supports a total run of up to 200 ft (60 m) when paired with appropriate receivers, giving you room to place displays across a conference room, lab, or commercial space while maintaining high-quality DVI-D video. The combination of box-style design, reliable digital signaling, and flexible receiver options makes it a practical choice for improving productivity and effectiveness in multi-monitor setups.

Designed for professional environments, this DVI over Cat5/6 extender preserves image clarity and color fidelity across multiple displays. It focuses on DVI-D video, ensuring compatibility with a broad range of graphics cards and monitors that rely on standard DVI connections. The compact transmitter’s form factor supports easy mounting on desks or in shelving, while the receiver options provide a modular path to a scalable display network. With its robust build and straightforward cabling, the system minimizes clutter and simplifies future upgrades, enabling organizations to adapt quickly as needs evolve.

Key advantages of the Tripp Lite 2-Port DVI over Cat5/6 Splitter/Extender

  • Dual-input, quad-output DVI-D distribution: The B140-002-DD accepts two DVI-D sources and distributes each to two remote monitors via Cat5e/6 cabling, enabling four displays from two PCs. This setup is ideal for multitasking, where each PC drives two monitors, or for side-by-side comparisons and extended desktop configurations. The result is a seamless, synchronized video experience across four screens with consistent color and timing.
  • Adaptive distance options with passive and active receivers: When you choose passive receivers, you can place displays up to 50 ft away from the transmitter at 1920x1080, or up to 100 ft at 1024x768, with no external power required. For longer runs or higher resolutions, active, powered receivers extend the signal further and maintain image integrity. This flexibility makes the system suitable for classrooms, trading floors, and control rooms where display placement is constrained by space or wiring routes.
  • High-quality DVI-D video over standard Cat5e/6 cables: By using common network cabling, this extender minimizes clutter and simplifies installation. Cat5e/6 twisted-pair cables support the bandwidth required for DVI-D video, delivering sharp text, solid color reproduction, and stable frame rates across connected displays. The solution avoids bulky coaxial runs or expensive specialty cables, making upgrades and maintenance more straightforward.
  • Compact, box-style transmitter for versatile mounting: The transmitter’s box-style form factor fits neatly on a desk, shelf, or in a small equipment rack. Its straightforward layout reduces installation time and makes integration with other AV or IT gear simple. Receiver units (active or passive) can be deployed at display locations as needed, providing a modular approach to multi-monitor deployments.
  • TAA-compliant and enterprise-ready: This model is designed to meet government and institutional procurement requirements, featuring TAA compliance for trusted, long-term deployment in professional environments. Built for durability and consistency, it supports extended use in data centers, classrooms, corporate offices, and command centers, delivering reliable performance over time.

How to install Tripp Lite by Eaton 2-Port DVI over Cat5/6 Splitter/Extender

  • Step 1: Connect the two DVI-D sources from graphic cards or integrated GPUs to the two DVI inputs on the transmitter using standard DVI-D cables.
  • Step 2: Run two Cat5e/6 twisted-pair cables from the transmitter to the locations of the remote receivers near each display. Use solid conductor Cat5e/6 for best results and keep runs away from sources of interference.
  • Step 3: Attach the receiver units at each display location. If you are using passive receivers, connect them directly to the DVI-D monitors with short DVI cables. If you are using active receivers, connect power adapters to the receivers as required by the model.
  • Step 4: Connect each remote monitor to its respective receiver using DVI-D cables. Verify that each display is set to the correct input and resembles the corresponding PC source.
  • Step 5: Power on the transmitters and receivers. If using active receivers, ensure they are plugged in and powering up. Then configure your PCs to extend or duplicate displays as needed and adjust the display resolutions to match the supported range (up to 1920x1080 per display in most setups).
  • Step 6: Test all four displays for synchronization, color accuracy, and stability. If you notice any video handshake issues, cycle power to the devices or reduce the resolution to improve compatibility. Maintain good cable quality and avoid running Cat5e/6 cables parallel to high-power lines to minimize interference.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: How many displays can I drive with this splitter/extender?

A: The system is designed to support two DVI-D sources, each distributed to two remote monitors, for a total of four displays from two PCs.

  • Q: Do the remote receivers require power?

A: Passive receivers do not require external power, while active receivers require a power source to extend distances and support higher resolutions.

  • Q: What cable should I use?

A: Use solid-conductor Cat5e or Cat6 twisted-pair cables for the video signal path. Keep runs as short as possible to maintain optimal video quality.

  • Q: Is HDCP supported?

A: The documentation provided does not explicitly confirm HDCP compliance for every configuration. If HDCP is essential for your deployment, verify compatibility with your displays and the specific receiver model you plan to use.

Great job by Asurion!
Asurion handled my claim quickly and efficiently. My return was picked up by UPS and an Amazon gift card for the full amount was received as promised. Very happy with the process.

Make sure you read the terms and conditions and don't let them off the hook
Asurion is counting on the fact that you don't know how to read. They made the claim process aggravating and as difficult as possible. I CAN read and had to review the terms and conditions with them on the phone and threaten to involve an attorney before they would honor the coverage. They tried to say my product was not portable, when the word "portable" is literally in the name of the product. Then they tried to say the the accidental drop was not covered, but it clearly states in the terms and conditions that an accidental drop and a cracked screen is a covered event. I buy the coverage almost every time I am offered it, but I will be rethinking that going forward and Amazon should consider finding a different company to issue the protection plans for their products because I fear this is the beginning of a lot of complaints. I have filed a claim in the past and it was very straightforward and easy, but they must have a new company managing the plans now, because it was anything but easy. If I was an older person who was not tech savy, or who just took someone's word at face value, I would be out the cost of my item and the protection plan. BUYER BEWARE

Knowledgeable and helpful
I purchased a new Sony TV and was having a lot of trouble coordinating the settings. After struggling for 1.5 days, I gave up and called the number for Asurion. There was a reasonable wait while I found the "right" tech person, but it was worthwhile. He was knowledgeable and patient. He gave me confidence and we worked together to solve all my issues. At the end he became pressuring, wanted me to buy a monthly gig with them.
